Tanya Aspinall - Co-opted Governor
Tanya came to Manchester to study for the PhD in Molecular Biology at UMIST. She spent 10 years working in scientific research, in industry and academia, both in the UK and the USA. Following an accident at work, she retrained as a Health and Safety specialist, and now works at the Manchester Institute of Bioyechmology, where she has oversight of health, safety, risk and compliance for all scientific research within the institute.
Tanya is passionate about education and strongly believes that everyone should have the opportunity to achieve to their full potential. She is heavily involved in the Institute's community outreach programme, where she facilitates open days and community events. These events often target students within the local community who may not have considered university attendance as part of their future career paths.
Tanya is grateful for the opportunity to work with the school staff, management team and governors, in conjunction with parents and the local community. She hopes her experience in academia, safety and scientific research will contribute to shaping the education of our children and the local community.
