Pupil Leadership

At Gatley Primary School, we see all of our pupils as leaders and we aim to hear and respond to the voice of our pupils through everything we do.

Pupil Leadership opportunities are an integral part of our practice and we have a number of well-established pupil groups and councils, made up of pupils from across the school who work collaboratively with staff to support school improvement.

This year, our councils and pupil groups include:

  • School Council
  • Curriculum Council
  • Creative Council
  • Maths Council
  • Young Gatley Village Partnership
  • Reading Ambassadors
  • Wellbeing Ambassadors
  • Play Leaders

Each council and pupil group has a clear vision for school improvement and our pupils are proud to see the clear impact their leadership has had both within our school and within our wider community.

Previous projects and initiatives our councils have been involved in include:

  • the design of learning spaces within our school (eg. the Year 5/6 Learning Hub and the Common Room)
  • monitoring and evaluating our curriculum offer against the 6 Cs of our curriculum
  • the creation of our behaviour principles and improvements to our rewards system (including the introduction of CHAMPS)
  • shaping the RHSE and Wellbeing Policy
  • community projects eg. litter picking, community planting schemes and Gatley Festival involvement
  • leading on the creation of our Paddington Book in commemoration of Queen Elizabeth II
  • involvement in national research projects (eg. work with SSAT and UCL)
  • supporting with the delivery of external and internal professional development (eg. within NPQ delivery)

The following article, published in The Chartered College Journal 'Impact' gives an oversight of the priority given to and the impact of pupil agency and voice at our school:
