Parents as Partners
Having a successful partnership with parents is essential to achieve the most with our pupils. Research has proven how important learning out of school is. Professor Charles Desforges found that, "At the age of seven, parental influence on learning is six times that of the school".
The Leading Parent Partnership Award (LPPA) gives schools a coherent framework to deliver effective parental engagement from early years to post-16. The school has recently received the LPPA re-award, which is a national award that works towards delivering effective parental engagement in our school.

At Gatley Primary School, we are continuing to try to improve all aspects of parental engagement and need your help to do this. Since the award, we have continued to develop our effectiveness in parent partnerships. Our Parent Voice was established in 2013 and is a valued contributor to school life. This group has representatives from across the school and meets half-termly to review policies, school initiatives and promote a forum for discussing current issues.
Below are examples of initiatives that have evolved from Parent Voice discussions:
- offering drop-in sessions each term (on the opposite half term to parents evening). Along with our ‘open door' policy, this will ensure there is an opportunity to discuss progress with your child’s class teacher each half term
- reviewing at the use of ICT communication including developing our new school website, the school-wide use of Class Dojo, and the planned launch and use of social media to keep you up to date
- sending home some of those magical ‘wow’ moments your child has had using electronic feedback
